Scotland's 'first' digital tech charity launched

What is described as Scotland’s first charity dedicated to providing under 16s with skills in digital technology has been launched.

The Digital Xtra Fund’s objectives include encouraging more girls to take science, technology, engineering and maths subjects at school.

Before achieving charitable status, the scheme ran workshops at schools across Scotland last year.

It has received some initial funding from public bodies.

These include Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Scottish Funding Council.

The Digital Xtra Fund’s launch as a charity was announced by Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, Shirley-Anne Somerville, in Glasgow at Tackling the Technology Gender Gap Together 2017.
