Five people have been arrested after a man was killed in an attack “by several people”, police said.
The 53-year-old was fatally injured outside a business on Manchester Road in the Linthwaite area of Huddersfield, at about 23:45 GMT on Thursday.
A 39-year-old man was also seriously injured and is receiving treatment in hospital, West Yorkshire Police said.
Four men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Police said officers were called to the scene following reports of two men being “attacked outside the premises by several persons”.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Ridley, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “This has clearly been an extremely serious incident and the investigation is in its early stages to determine exactly what has taken place.
“Increased patrols are being conducted in the area by local neighbourhood policing team officers and I want to reassure residents that a full range of resources has been deployed to investigate what has taken place.”
He appealed for witnesses and anyone with information or footage “showing the incident or persons behaving suspiciously on the road” to contact the force.
